4G is the term for the fourth-generation of wireless communications, defined by the ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union - Telecommunication Standardization Sector) as the IMT Advanced (International Mobile Telecommunications Advanced) standard. Although the 4G standard has not been officially finalized, future-proof fourth generation networks that comply with most or all of standard requirements are being implemented today using emerging WiMAX technologies (IEEE 802.16e and IEEE 802.16m).
